Converter

Regional note: the converter uses the Dhaka-standard 1 bigha = 33 katha (23,760 sq ft). Some districts use 1 bigha = 20 katha, and official land records (CS/SA porcha) always measure in acre and shotok — match the deed before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

How many square feet is one katha?

In the standard Dhaka measure, 1 katha = 720 sq ft, and 1 shotok (decimal) = 435.6 sq ft — exactly 1/100 of an acre. So 1 katha ≈ 1.65 shotok.

Why does my bigha not match?

Bigha is not a fixed statutory unit: most of Bangladesh treats it as 33 katha, but districts like Kushtia and parts of Rajshahi use 20 katha. The deed and mouza map govern — convert everything to square feet or shotok before comparing.

Which unit will the sub-registry office use?

Registration deeds record land in acres, shotok and katha per the CS/SA record. If you are executing a power of attorney from abroad for a land sale, make sure the land schedule in the deed and the PoA quote the same units.
