Silver
Money and assets
Nothing is uploaded — the calculation runs entirely in your browser. All amounts must be in the same currency. Use gold and silver prices from today; zakat is due on wealth held above the nisab for one full year (hawl).
How it works
Zakat al-mal is 2.5% of qualifying wealth held for one lunar year, once the total crosses the nisab threshold: 87.48 grams of pure gold or 612.36 grams of silver.
Jewelry counts by its pure gold content — a 22K piece weighing one bhori contributes about 10.69 grams of pure gold — and you enter your jeweller's own price per bhori, so the value matches the local market.
Cash, bank balances, savings certificates, DPS, FDR, business goods and money lent out all qualify. Deduct debts and immediately due expenses before comparing against the nisab.
Many scholars advise the silver nisab for savings-based wealth because it benefits the poor more; others follow the gold standard common in Bangladesh. The calculator shows both thresholds so you can follow your own guidance.
Frequently asked questions
How much is zakat on gold in Bangladesh?
If your total qualifying wealth — jewelry, cash, savings — reaches the nisab, zakat is 2.5% of its value. Enter the weight in bhori and today's 22K price per bhori, and the calculator applies the karat conversion for you.
Which nisab should I use, gold or silver?
The gold nisab (87.48 g) gives a higher threshold; the silver nisab (612.36 g) is much lower and makes zakat due more easily. Bangladeshi practice commonly follows the gold nisab, while many international scholars recommend silver. Follow your own advisor — the calculator shows both.
Do savings certificates and DPS count for zakat?
Yes. Sanchayapatra, FDR, DPS and similar savings are zakatable at their current encashment value, and the profit already accrued also counts as part of your wealth.
Is zakat due on jewelry I wear every day?
Scholars differ on everyday-worn jewelry; the majority Hanafi position counts all gold. Enter it and decide with your own conscience or advisor — the calculator shows the amount either way.
What currency does the calculator use?
Any single currency: enter everything in BDT, CAD or anything else, consistently. The nisab is converted using the gold and silver prices you enter, so no live rate is needed.
