How it works

The government of Bangladesh pays a 2.5% cash incentive on remittances sent through legal channels — a bank account or an official mobile wallet remittance service. The recipient does not apply for it: the bank or wallet credits it automatically, usually instantly.

This calculator fetches a live exchange rate, converts your amount to taka, and adds the 2.5% bonus so you see the total that actually lands.

There is no upper limit on the incentive amount — 2.5% is credited whether you send ৳5,000 or ৳5 lakh.

The exchange rate shown is a mid-market rate. Banks and transfer services apply their own rate, so compare what your provider offers against this baseline — the Compare transfers page does that side by side.

Frequently asked questions

Who gets the 2.5% incentive?

Any remittance sent to Bangladesh through a bank or an official mobile wallet remittance channel qualifies. The beneficiary receives the money plus 2.5% on top, credited automatically by the receiving bank or wallet.

Is there a limit on the incentive?

No. The 2.5% applies to the full remitted amount regardless of size. The scheme has run since 2019 and the rate has been 2.5% since January 2022.

Is the incentive taxable?

No. The 2.5% government incentive and the remittance itself are not treated as taxable income of the recipient when sent through legal channels.

Does my family need to do anything to claim it?

No application is needed for the standard 2.5% — it is credited automatically with the remittance. Some banks add their own extra incentive during Eid seasons; those vary by bank.

What exchange rate will I actually get?

This tool uses a live mid-market rate as a baseline. Every provider adds its own margin, and the 2.5% is calculated on the taka your provider delivers. Check the Compare transfers page for side-by-side rates.
