Where do I renew my Bangladesh passport in the UAE?
Enrol at epassport.gov.bd and give biometrics at the Abu Dhabi Embassy (Al Mushrif), the Dubai Consulate (Abu Hail) or an announced mobile consular camp. Indicative fees run AED 160 for a 5-year and AED 320 for a 10-year e-passport; printing happens in Dhaka.
Is my employer allowed to keep my passport?
No. UAE law strictly forbids passport retention by employers or sponsors, with fines from AED 20,000 to AED 50,000 for violations. Report confiscation to MOHRE on 80060 or through the mission labour wing.
How is my end-of-service gratuity calculated?
Under Article 51 of Federal Decree-Law No. 33 of 2021: 21 days of basic salary for each of your first 5 years, then 30 days per year beyond 5, capped at two years of basic salary. Since the 2021 law, resignation no longer reduces the gratuity as long as you have completed at least one year.
What is ILOE and do I need it?
The Involuntary Loss of Employment scheme is mandatory insurance for private-sector workers: AED 5 per month buys up to 60% of your basic salary for up to 3 months if your contract is terminated arbitrarily. Keep it active from your first month of work via iloe.ae or exchange houses.
I overstayed my visa — what should I do?
Do not hand your documents to agents. During announced ICP or GDRFA grace periods you can regularise your exit through the missions' outpass desk — the fee is free or nominal, processing takes 24-48 hours and you typically leave without a re-entry ban. Check your status at an Amer center first.
