Gold Price Calculator: Vori, Gram & Karat
Bangladesh sells gold by the vori, quotes it by the karat and weighs it in grams at the airport. Enter today's BAJUS rate and see what a piece is worth in vori, grams and ana, with making charges added the way a jeweller would.
Rate as published 2026-07-13 (BAJUS). Prefilled as the 22K rate of Tk 2,29,373 per vori (Tk 19,665 per gram). BAJUS changes rates often, so edit the field with today's figure before you rely on the total.

How BAJUS sets the rate
The Bangladesh Jewellers Association sets a countrywide reference each day it trades, benchmarked on 22 karat and applied from the next morning. Shops are expected to display the rate, and the figure is quoted per vori including VAT on the gold value. Because the association revises the number whenever world prices or the taka move, a rate you read last month is history, not a quote, which is why this calculator keeps every field editable.
22K, 21K and 18K: what the karat means
Karat measures how much of the metal is gold, out of 24 parts. 22K, the wedding standard in Bangladesh, is 91.6 percent gold and soft enough to bend. 21K at 87.5 percent is the compromise many families choose for daily wear, and 18K at 75 percent is the harder metal used in stone-set and machine-made pieces. Two ornaments of the same weight can differ by thousands of taka purely on karat, so ask before you compare two shops.
Making charges, wastage and VAT
The BAJUS rate is the metal alone. What you pay at the counter also carries making charges, usually 8 to 12 percent on simple designs and more on filigree, plus a wastage allowance on some purchases and VAT where it applies. Enter the percentage you were quoted in the field above and the calculator folds it into the total, which is the number worth comparing across shops.
Selling gold back: what you actually get
A buy-back is priced on metal weight, not on what you paid, so the making charge disappears the moment you leave the shop. Expect the buyer to test purity, deduct for solder and stones, and quote slightly below the day's rate. Keep the hallmark and the purchase receipt: pieces with a BJS hallmark and a bill fetch a better price, and shops in Dhaka's Tanti Bazar and Chattogram's Reazuddin Bazar quote competitively if you are selling a large quantity.
Frequently asked questions
What is 1 vori of gold in grams?
One vori (bhori) equals 11.664 grams, and one vori splits into 16 ana, so one ana is 0.729 grams.
How do I convert a vori price to a gram price?
Divide the per-vori rate by 11.664. A 22K rate of Tk 2,29,373 per vori works out at about Tk 19,665 per gram.
Does 22K gold mean pure gold?
No. 22K is 91.6 percent gold, 21K is 87.5 percent and 18K is 75 percent. The rest is alloy metal that hardens the jewellery.
Why is the shop price higher than the BAJUS rate?
Jewellers add making charges, wastage and VAT. Making charges commonly run 8 to 12 percent of the gold value, and ornaments with intricate design cost more.
Does the gold price change every day?
BAJUS announces a rate, often several times a month, and shops apply it from the next morning. Wedding season and global prices move it fastest.
