Stuck Remittance & Refund: How to Trace a Delayed Transfer

Money left your account but the family says nothing arrived. This is the shortest path from that feeling to a resolved case: what to check in the first hour, who can actually see the money, and the escalation ladder that works when support stops answering.

WhenWhat to do
Hour 0-2Check the receipt before you blame anyone
Hour 2-24Ask the receiving wallet or bank if it can see the money
Day 1-3Open a written ticket with the sending provider
Day 3-7Escalate inside the provider, then to the sending side's regulator
Day 7-15File with Bangladesh Bank's complaint system
Day 15+Bring in the mission

The four facts that solve most cases

Almost every stuck transfer comes down to one of four things: a wrong beneficiary number, a name that does not match the ID on file, a receiver wallet that has hit its monthly limit or been blocked by KYC, or an intermediary bank holding the funds for a compliance check. Each produces a different status code, and the status code is what you are really chasing. Support agents cannot investigate a story, but they can act on a reference number, so lead with that every time.

Numbers are the publicly published hotlines; confirm them in the app or on the operator's site before you rely on them, since providers change short codes.

Refunds: what you should expect back

If the money never reaches the beneficiary, the principal should come back, but rarely all of the fee. Providers usually keep the transfer fee and apply the reverse FX rate, so a refund can land a few percent light. Ask for the exact refund figure in writing before you authorise a cancellation, and never cancel on a promise that the money will simply be re-sent, because that creates a second transaction with its own delays.

Prevent the next one

Send the first transfer to a new beneficiary in daylight, not at midnight before a deadline. Save the beneficiary once the first transfer lands, and check the digits character by character against a screenshot from the recipient rather than from memory. Keep your KYC documents current with the provider, because a wallet that has been blocked for an expired ID will reject every incoming credit without telling the sender why.

Frequently asked questions

How long can a remittance legally stay stuck?

There is no single fixed limit, but a transfer that cannot be delivered should be returned to the sender rather than held indefinitely. In practice most banks and providers clear or refund within 7 to 30 days, and the clock starts when you raise a written ticket, not when the money left.

Can the money be recalled once it reaches a bKash wallet?

Not by the sender. Once a wallet is credited, the balance belongs to the recipient and only the recipient can send it back. That is why a wrong number is so painful: the recovery depends on the person who received it agreeing to return it.

Who pays the charges on a refunded transfer?

Usually the sender loses the fee and may also absorb the FX difference, which is why the amount refunded is often slightly less than what was paid. Ask the provider in writing what the refund amount will be before you agree to a cancellation.

What documents should I gather first?

The send receipt with the reference PIN, the beneficiary's mobile or account number, the sender's passport or ID, a screenshot of the app status and any ticket number. Missions and regulators ask for the same six items, so assemble them once.

Does the 2.5% government incentive get refunded too?

If the transfer is never delivered, the incentive goes back with the principal, since it is calculated on the delivered amount. If the money lands late, the incentive is normally still credited, but confirm with the receiving bank rather than assuming.
