Qatar & Oman hub FAQ

How many Bangladeshis live in Qatar and Oman?

Around 275,000 Bangladeshis work in Qatar and more than 737,000 in Oman — together one of the largest Bangladeshi communities in the Gulf, mostly in construction, services, hospitality and domestic work.

Where do I renew my Bangladesh passport in Qatar or Oman?

Enrol at epassport.gov.bd, then give biometrics at the Bangladesh Embassy in Doha (Ain Khalid, Zone 56) or the Bangladesh Embassy in Muscat (Villa 4207, Way 3052, Shatti Al Qurum, office Sun–Thu 8:00–16:00). Fees follow the same Dhaka schedule as other missions.

How is my end-of-service gratuity calculated?

In Qatar, Labour Law No. 14 of 2004 guarantees at least three weeks' basic wage per year of service once you complete one year. In Oman, the new Labour Law (Royal Decree 53/2023) pays at least one month's basic wage per year; older contracts follow 15 days for the first three years and one month after. Use the calculator above with your exact years of service.

Can my employer keep my passport in Qatar or Oman?

No. Both countries prohibit passport retention: Qatar's ADLSA fines violators and Oman's Ministry of Labour treats confiscation as a labour violation. Keep only a copy with your employer and report confiscation to the ministry and your mission's labour wing.
